Dive Alert - Scuba Divers Air Horn

Surfacing from a dive to find the boat gone is one of the most unsettling experiences in scuba diving. Floating alone, with nothing but open water around you, the ability to signal your position quickly and effectively is not just useful, it can be life-saving. The Dive Alert is a pneumatic air horn designed specifically for scuba divers, giving you a powerful audible signal whenever you need it most.

How It Works

The Dive Alert fits neatly between your BCD's power inflator head and the low-pressure hose. When you press the button, it draws air directly from your tank and produces an ear-piercing horn blast audible up to 1.5km away. Independent testers have verified this claim. The quality of sound is comparable to a smoke detector but far louder, powerful enough to cut through surface chop, fog, and mist to grab the attention of a dive boat or nearby vessel. It also works below the surface, making it useful for alerting a dive buddy at depth.

Surface Signalling Devices

Surface Signalling Devices (SSDs) fall into four categories: audible, night-use, visual, and electronic. Each has its own advantages depending on conditions. In low-light, foggy, misty, or choppy seas, an audible device like the Dive Alert is often the most effective first line of signalling. A standard whistle carries roughly 250m, but a pneumatic horn dramatically increases your chances of being located. Pairing the Dive Alert with other SSDs gives you the best overall protection:

Night-use: Always carry a small torch in your BCD pocket. A chemical light stick or compact light mounted on a signal tube will draw attention in darkness, and waving a torch beam helps an approaching boat zero in on your position.

Visual: A safety sausage or signal tube is the most common visual device. A standard sausage is effective up to around 500m, while larger versions can extend that to 1000m or more. Orange is highly visible in bright sunny conditions, while fluoro yellow performs better in overcast light. Deploy your safety sausage as soon as you surface so it is visible from a distance while you activate your other signals.
